กล้องดิจิตอลแบบซิงเกิ้ลเลนส์ ตัวล่าสุดเปิดตัวแล้วเมื่อวันที่ 19 ส.ค.2553 ที่ผ่านมา เป็นรุ่นปรับปรุงจากรุ่น D3000 มีรายละเอียดการรับภาพมากขึ้นเป็น 14.2ล้านพิกเซล
เซ็นเซอร์รับภาพตัวใหม่ DX Format 14.2 ล้านพิกเซล CMOS,ตั้งค่าความไวแสงได้ตั้งแต่ ISO100 - 3200 และขยายได้ถึง 12800 ระบบประมวลผลภาพรุ่นใหม่ EXPEED2 ลดสัญญาณรบกวนประสิทธิภาพสูง ไฟล์ภาพคมชัด เก็บครบทุกโทนสีและรายละเอียด ,สามารถถ่ายวิดีโอรายละเอียดสูงแบบ Full HD ได้พร้อมกับระบบออโต้โฟกัสแบบต่อเนื่อง(full-time servo AF) ,ระบบโฟกัสแบบตรวจจับใบหน้าได้ถึง 35 ใบหน้า(ในรุ่น D5000ได้เพียง 5 ใบหน้า),แสดงภาพแบบ Liveview Mode,Guide Mode ช่วยแนะนำผู้ใช้เลือกโหมดถ่ายภาพได้ถูกต้องเหมาะสมกับลักษณะการใช้งาน,เลือกโหมดบันทึกภาพอัตโนมัติในตัว (Scene Auto Selector built-in)
